Warren and Jane Bullock - Competition Dance Coaching

About Warren and Jane Bullock

Warren

... began dancing at the age of eight at a local dancing school which by chance, turned out to be owned by the highly successful and world famous Syd Perkin and Edna Duffield in Warren's home town of Stoke on Trent.

At the age of eleven, Warren won the British Juvenile Championship at the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool.     Supported by his devoted late parents, Maurice and Jean, Warren travelled around the country competing and becoming one of the country's top Juniors and at the age of 15, made his first British Junior final.

A number of different partners came and went until at the age of 19 he met his last partner and now wife, Jane, at a studio in Birmingham run by top competitive coaches, Robin Short and Rita Last who introduced them.

Still financed by his parents, Warren had a string of jobs - of note was a long stint as an airbrush artist to help with his coaching costs although he says that he owes all of his success to his parents without whom, he could never have achieved his goals.

A glittering Amateur and Professional career followed with them being in demand all over the world before finally retiring from competitions at Sun City in South Africa in 1997.

Jane

... began her dancing career at the age of six at a local dancing school in Dudley in the West Midlands where her parents, Ray and Mary attended.    Jane concentrated on her medals progressing through the IDTA medal test syllabus enjoying her classes and social dances with her parents unaware of the competitive world out there.   She danced with other girls in the classes and medal tests until she was 17 always taking the 'gents role' as she was so tall.

While studying for her A levels, she worked at Woolworths as a Saturday girl so that she could afford extra dance lessons but it was her dance teacher who confronted her with a surprise partner for competitions at the age of 18.    She'd got the bug and when the partnership ended some months later after only a handful of local competitions, she went for a ‘try out' at a top Birmingham studio owned by Robin Short and Rita Last.

She didn't get the partner but Robin and Rita noticed her and rang Warren to suggest a try-out as they had been impressed. Warren split with his partner to dance with Jane and the rest is history.

Jane worked for British Telecom in Wolverhampton and Birmingham where she became a senior level manager until she turned professional in 1994.
