Zig Zag Dance Factory Does it Again!!

Yes, Warren and Jane and the team were celebrating again last weekend after winning the Adults Top Teacher Award yet again at the annual Stars of the Future national competition held at the Brentwood International Centre.  This is the 9th consecutive year that they have claimed this prestigious title and Warren and Jane are delighted to come home with the trophy once more.  As usual, it was a long and tiring day with Zig Zag pupils dancing in various competitions from 9am until 11.30pm but nevertheless the team spirit never waned and we all let out a big cheer when the announcement was made, despite our croaky throats from cheering everyone on throughout the day!  The Supreme Teachers Award also went to Warren and Jane for achieving the best results over both the adults and children's sections - this is the 6th consecutive year they have won this.   Warren and Jane would like to thank all the pupils and their famillies for all their hard work and support.  It certainly makes it all worth while!!

Carl Alan Awards

The IDTA President's Dinner Dance and Carl Alan Awards Ceremony were held on 1st February and Warren and Jane were were in attendance as they had been nominated for the Ballroom and Latin Professional Teacher's Award.  They were absolutely delighted to be announced as the winners as the Carl Alan Awards are considered to be 'The Oscars of the World of Dance' - to be nominated in the first place is an achievement in itself, but to actually win is a great honour as it shows that all the dance associations/societies recognise their considerable contribution to the world of dance.  It was a very grand affair held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in Hyde Park, London with Lionel Blair, legend of stage, screen and TV, compering the ceremony.  Warren and Jane were presented with their Award by non other than Karen Hardy from Strictly Come Dancing.  They thoroughly enjoyed the evening and now Jane has yet another trophy to polish!!  This is the second time they have received this award, the first time for being the years most outstanding amateur competitors which was presented by Angela Rippon and Lional Blair.

'Really Easy'

New Beginners Classes

Our new absolute beginners classes are now welcoming new people.  No booking or joining fee, just turn up or call us if you have any questions.  They really are fun and lighthearted and great for excercise too!   Singles and couples are all very welcome.   No age limit and no experience needed....they are for beginners!   Just check out our 'classes timetable to see which venue is closest and what day the classes are on.   We also hold Improvers and more advanced classes for those who can already dance and want to brush up on their skills.  Our teachers are very warm and friendly

and will put you at your easy and are all highly qualified with the UKA and BATD and CRB checked...unlike a lot of the opposition (tip!...always look at a schools website - if they are qualified teachers they will be proud to show off their qualifications!)   Our experience shows and we've been voted the 'Top Teachers of the Year for the last 8 consecutive years!   Our social dance 'get togethers' and practice nights are great fun too!   We hope to see you soon!

Fake Tan!

ok, we've found out the best fake tan for all you competitors!   After seeing so many of our couples compete at the British Champs the other week with tan that just wasn't dark enough or looked patchy, we've done extensive research into it.  The best stuff is only available from Hannes Emrich in London.  He sells it at £27.50 which seems rather expensive....but its worth it!...its just the best stuff!   It's a body paint that you apply with a paint roller like you get from B&Q....let it dry and then apply a bronzing shimmer coat to seal and finish it.   The shimmer coat is made of the normal bronzing powder that you can get anywhere, but you have to mix it with Nivea body lotion.   Mix half a bottle of Nivea to a tub of bronzing powder then apply with your hand.   This will seal the body paint and give a mat finish with a bronze shimmer....it looks fantastic!  This look gives a stronger look to your dancing....yes, it is just a visual thing but you'll be surprised what a difference it makes.  Warning: it wont make any difference to your results if you are off time...they still wont mark you!

You can buy the body paint (which is shipped from Australia) from Hannes on 07710 061078.

New term, New ideas & New teachers!

..........and wait till you see what else

we have in store!!

Unfortunately, Sue & George Weaver will not be returning to Zig Zag.   Its been a good 2 years of fun classes with them which im sure many have enjoyed.

Sue & George started in our own beginners classes several years back and have done well to learn some teaching skills while dancing in beginners and novice competitions themselves.   They have been allowed to teach while on the Amateur Coaching Scheme which helps give an understanding of the basic figures.   Although they didnt manage to complete the course we know it's been a help to them and we sincerely wish them well and good luck for the future.

Shirley Johnson (AUKAPTD BB LA) has taken over the Banners Gate class on a Wednesday.   Shirley is one of our most experienced teachers in the school (and even helped in Sue & George's own training) and is a former International level Champion including being a former British Team member and a British Championship grand finalist.  Shirley has a great sence of humour and is simply lovely!

Jane Bullock (MUKAPTD MBATD BB LA) will take over the Codsall class -  Jane, as you will know, is part owner of Zig Zag and is a world famous Professional dancer - not to mention All England Champion and voted Top Teacher of the Year for the last 7 consecutive years!

We are sure you will be sorry to lose Sue & George but these new teachers are awesome and bound to get your feet sizzling!

At Zig Zag we offer many benefits.   Firstly, our remaining teachers are fully qualified professionals that have studied for years to gain high qualifications in dance.  We also have a number of EADA registered coaches who are in training.  All are fully insured and CRB checked.

We hold regular medal tests for those that want to do them and have an incredible 100% pass rate for the 15 years we've been established.

We run a social practice session every other Saturday at Streetly and regular dances and theme nights where we bring you Internationally famous dancers to perform for you - we've already had Darren Bennett & Lilia Kopylova, Ian Waite & Camilla Dallerup, Vincent Simone & Flavia Cacace, Matthew & Nicole Cutler, James & Ola Jordan to name but a few of the 'Strictly' dancers and we have some amazing shows booked for later this year...just watch this space!

We have our charity  fund raising day on September 6th in aid of Compton Hospice where 40 of our dancers will do 2 indoor Skydiving jumps to raise money for this great cause wearing a variety of wacky outifits...hope you can all help us out?

Our school is also registered with the UKA, BATD WDDSC, EADA in which we hold qualifications and is renowned as the UK's biggest and most successful school....so rest assured - you've come to the right place!

Here's to an even better term, some new fantastic routines & a fun filled year of top class learning.....hope you enjoy it!

New Hairdressers

Zig Zag is pleased to recommend two new hairdressers that specialise in competition hairstyles.

Brian & Joan of 'The Right Style' are based in Wolverhampton and came along to Champions of Tomorrow and did some fantastic work with our pupils.  Their 'up' styles were amazing and considering we are so fussy about the visual look at Zig Zag, they did a brilliant job.

Joan also specialises in hairstyles for weddings and special occasions. and is particularly good with long hair.

Their address is:

The Right Style,  Billy Wright Stand, Molyneux, Waterloo Road, Wolverhampton, WV1 4QR

Tel: 01902 715410
