WALTZ

A slow, romantic ballroom style dance which first developed in Vienna to the Strauss music of the time, and later developed into the Slow English Waltz. The most popular of our ballroom dances.

TANGO

A passionate dance that originated in Argentina and is characterized by catlike walking action and staccato head movements.

FOXTROT

Characterized by smooth, flowing, walking-style movements danced to lots of Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole music. Renowned as the most beautiful of the Ballroom dances.

QUICKSTEP

A fun and lively English style ballroom dance that is characterized by fast movement, often including a variety of hops, kicks, skips, lock steps and chassés

VIENNESE WALTZ

Elegant and beautiful the Viennese Waltz is the classic waltz style seen in many movies and even Disney cartoons! As the name suggests it is linked to Vienna where the Aristocracy danced the Viennese Waltz to music by Strauss and other classical composers.

Latin American

CHA CHA

An exciting, syncopated Latin dance which originated in the 1950’s as a slowed-down Mambo. The Cha Cha gets its name and character from its distinct repetitive foot rhythm and is now usually danced to popular chart music.

SAMBA

A rhythmical Brazilian Latin dance depicting the Carnival at Rio that has been adapted for today’s dancing. Samba is noted for it’s distinct style of movement, which incorporates both Latin hip action and the signature “Samba Bounce”.

RUMBA

This is the spirit and soul of Latin American music and dance. The fascinating rhythms and sexually provocative hip and body expressions, make the Rumba one of the most popular and sensuous Latin dances.

PASO DOBLE

A dramatic Spanish Flamenco-style march, with the man portraying the matador in a bullfight, the lady as his cape. Paso Doble is usually danced to España Cani, the Spanish Gypsy Dance.

JIVE

A hugely popular, fast and exhilarating Latin dance originating in the 50’s from the American GI’s. Often danced to Rock’n’Roll music made popular by Bill Haley although now danced mainly to today’s modern Jive music.classical composers.

SALSA

A popular Latin nightclub dance which evolved as a modified form of Mambo. Brought to the fore by the smash hit ‘Dirty Dancing’ it involves lots of intertwining and raunchy style movement. Great fun!

ARGENTINE TANGO

A style of Tango that originated in the streets and salons of Buenos Aires, characterized by its passionate hold and complex leg and foot movements. You may have seen it in ‘True Lies’ with Arnold Swartzeneggar.

ROCK ‘N’ ROLL

Rock ‘n’ Roll is a fun, energetic dance developed in the ’50s that is still alive and fresh today.
